Virgin America uses animation for new safety video

How many times have you heard the airline safety instructions?  Most people have heard them so many times that they no longer pay attention.  Instead they daze out, make last minute text messages, and read their magazines.

Virgin America decided to change things up.  They produced an animated video for their safety instructions. The video is not only easy on the eyes, but it's also humorous.  Now that's a first in airline safety!

If you want to spice up a boring concept, or one that your audience has heard a million times, try animation + humor!  We'll help.  Contact Lilipip Studios.

Animation versus Traditional Video and the "Talking Head"

Traditional video and animated video are very different.  It's important to understand the capabilities of both in order to decide which is best for your business.

Animation vs. Video

While traditional video is great for businesses who want to capture their physical location, animation is better for businesses that need to explain a complex concept, want to stand out as "innovative" or "hip"  in their industry, or want to capture something visually that is impossible with video.  Be sure to read our blog post about How to Do Your Online Video for editing tips and other important info.

Getting Started

In order to create a video of any kind, you must have a concept, a story, and a script.  Lilipip! has templates that you can use to help you with these items.  Please feel free to contact us if you're interested in these free materials.  As a business owner, you are the most passionate person when it comes to your business.  You also know your customers' pain and why you are their solution.  This is why you are the best creative!

Production

Creating a traditional video requires different considerations than creating an animated marketing video.  If you're creating a traditional video, the most important considerations are light, sound, and video equipment.  This is not something you want your son to create with your hand-held camera!  You need professionals.  Also, if you're using actors, get ready for some paperwork and to pay for their lunch! Be prepared because it's difficult to reshoot later.  You'll need consistency and the right footage before you get to the editing stage.

If you're creating an animated video, you'll need illustration or stock photo, and you can choose to add custom or stock music or a voice over.  Editing is much easier in animation because we're using computers- not real people.

Branding

While traditional videos is able to capture your story, it is much more difficult to reinforce your brand.  Most traditional videos are the same format while animated marketing videos use your logos, fonts, colors, and style throughout your video.

Technicalities and Delivery

If you choose an animated Lilipip! video, you'll receive all of the source files at the end.  This means that you have full control of your video.  In an animation, everything is created with vectors, meaning that it's easier to resize without pixelation.  The file size is also smaller which makes sharing much easier.

Small Business Embraces Animation: The Happy Roofer

Check out this awesome animated video created for State Roofer in Everett, WA.  This is a wonderful example of how small business can use animation to brand their companies and tell their story.  A lot of roofing companies use the "talking head" video instead of animation.  This roofing company decided to be different...

Instead of saying, "We're State Roofer, and we're the best roofers in Everett.", they told a story that will resonate with their audience.  The animation shows rain coming down, and then a house with an old, mossy roof.  As viewers, we think, "Oh no!  The roof is going to leak."  This does so much more for than the audience than a traditional video or ad.

Also, note that the animation is the perfect length, one minute long.  The retro design was perfect for their brand, and the music complimented the feel of the video.

Great job, State Roofer animators!  Watch the animation here:
