Honda "Keep Doing" Animated Commercial

Honda wanted everyone to know what their story and what they're doing to be more green.  They also wanted to inspire Honda owners to do their part and let them know that by servicing their car they're helping the planet.  Animation was the perfect way to get their message across.

See how simple shapes, colors, music, and "storyteller" voice over made this video very effective.

SOYJOY Animations

SOYJOY, the maker of soy and fruit bars, has been using animation in their commercials.  Their brand is hip, healthy, and flavorful, and animation was a great way to strengthen the brand and stand out.  My favorite SOYJOY animation, "Jump Rope," uses bright colors and playful music to show viewers just how amazing one of their bars makes you feel.

The second animation reinforces their brand with color and electronic music.

Be sure to check the Lilipip YouTube channel for more examples of great animation.

Inspiring Animation about Entrepreneurship

Check out this animation about entrepreneurship.  This animation was created for Grasshopper.com (formerly GotVmail), an awesome phone service for entrepreneurs.  The animation was created to get people to "join the entrepreneur movement; stimulate the economy; and spread the word."

This animation uses text, illustration, and animation to get an inspiring message across.  See how you can use animation in your business marketing video to get larger, more complex and emotional messages across?  This is the type of message that people talk about.  We've seen this video on Twitter and YouTube.

Animation versus Traditional Video and the "Talking Head"

Traditional video and animated video are very different.  It's important to understand the capabilities of both in order to decide which is best for your business.

Animation vs. Video

While traditional video is great for businesses who want to capture their physical location, animation is better for businesses that need to explain a complex concept, want to stand out as "innovative" or "hip"  in their industry, or want to capture something visually that is impossible with video.  Be sure to read our blog post about How to Do Your Online Video for editing tips and other important info.

Getting Started

In order to create a video of any kind, you must have a concept, a story, and a script.  Lilipip! has templates that you can use to help you with these items.  Please feel free to contact us if you're interested in these free materials.  As a business owner, you are the most passionate person when it comes to your business.  You also know your customers' pain and why you are their solution.  This is why you are the best creative!

Production

Creating a traditional video requires different considerations than creating an animated marketing video.  If you're creating a traditional video, the most important considerations are light, sound, and video equipment.  This is not something you want your son to create with your hand-held camera!  You need professionals.  Also, if you're using actors, get ready for some paperwork and to pay for their lunch! Be prepared because it's difficult to reshoot later.  You'll need consistency and the right footage before you get to the editing stage.

If you're creating an animated video, you'll need illustration or stock photo, and you can choose to add custom or stock music or a voice over.  Editing is much easier in animation because we're using computers- not real people.

Branding

While traditional videos is able to capture your story, it is much more difficult to reinforce your brand.  Most traditional videos are the same format while animated marketing videos use your logos, fonts, colors, and style throughout your video.

Technicalities and Delivery

If you choose an animated Lilipip! video, you'll receive all of the source files at the end.  This means that you have full control of your video.  In an animation, everything is created with vectors, meaning that it's easier to resize without pixelation.  The file size is also smaller which makes sharing much easier.

What to Do with Your Online Marketing Video

Videos are 50 times more likely to come up on the first page of Google than any other content. Most businesses appreciate the fact that video empowers their brand, communicates otherwise complicated messages, and improves the quality of their website. The question is...

What do I do with my online marketing video?

We've got a list for you!

  • Embed your video on your home page

  • Blog about it

  • Post your video on YouTube

  • Post your video on Vimeo (our preference)

  • Put your video on your Facebook and Biznik pages

  • Tweet about your video on Twitter

  • Link to your video in your email correspondence

  • Include your video in a PDF!  (Acrobat 9 only)

  • If you use Gmail, include your video in your email. (This is a new Gmail feature that is awesome.)

  • Take your video to trade shows. You'll amaze your audience.

  • Embed your video in your PowerPoint presentations. It will cut out 8x of your static text and talking time.

  • Burn your video onto CD/DVD and distribute to your clients.

  • Hand out flash drives that have your video on them.

  • Create a personalized mobile page at Treemo. Your clients can get to your videos by texting from their mobile phones.

  • Put your video on your cell phone, so you can explain your business and impress people at networking events, in airports and during meetings.

Your marketing video is like an incredibly impressive business card. It takes the passion and story you share in one on one business meetings and broadcasts it to your larger audience.
